Goals Recap

9 Dec

October Goals Recap:

  1. Use my brain powers to make the hockey season happen: FAIL
  2. Eat vegetables three times a day. Cut back the sugar, grains, and cheese. Limit alcohol consumption even more: The only one I had any kind of success with.
  3. Read 8 books (this sounds like not that much to me, but I’ve been reading some pretty hefty tomes lately): FAIL? I have no idea, but I did read a lot.
  4. Add one supplementary work out per week (WOD at home, running, hiking, etc.): FAIL FAIL FAIL
  5. Complete 3 items from my list: I’ve completed three items since then, but they were not all in October. Maybe none of them were.

November Goals: None.

December Goals: None. Okay, not none.

  1. post! actual! things!
  2. Use my brain power to make it snow somewhere nearby
  3. Don’t be a wuss at my half sleeve tattoo appointment next weekend
  4. Also don’t be a wuss at the “Holiday Party WOD” my box is having next weekend
  5. Cross two more things off the list starting from today and going until the end of the year. Anything done prior to today doesn’t count towards this.

Wedding Update!

5 Aug

(WordPress has totally been fucking everything up for me recently. I will write something somewhat coherent and interesting and then hit ‘publish post’ and get an INVALID REQUEST error message. Copy post, try to paste in a new blank post page and….nothing. So I get mad and half-ass a new, somewhat similar post, but it’s never the same.)

  • Engagement ring purchased! Now I just have to wait a week for it to get here! I got to pick it out, which has caused a little jealousy from some friends who are engaged/married (the upside to Marshall not knowing that engagement rings are different from wedding bands, I guess). I went with lab created white sapphires (cruelty free and budget friendly!).

  • Wedding bands have been found and will be purchased in about two weeks. We’re going with matching-ish black tungsten bands. Total for all three rings is less than $175, which fits our practically non-existent wedding budget.
  • Picking Ja Rule’s “put it on me” as OUR SONG seemed like a good idea at the time. Sorry in advance, everyone else at the courthouse on our wedding day.
  • I need to send out exactly 3 invitations: one to Mickey and Minnie Mouse, one to Cinderella and Prince Charming, and one to the President and the First Lady. They send you a certificate/photo/pin when you send them wedding invitations, and I thought that would be a fun thing to do.
  • And that’s it! That’s all the planning I have to do. We’re going to have photos taken at some point, but that can be whenever. All of my engaged friends have told me to ‘just elope’. My married friends who had “real” weddings agree with our decision.
  • If I had friends close by, or if I was close with my family, I would probably want something different. When I was younger, I wanted the “real” thing and and a great party after….but that’s not what is important – or practical – for us right now.

Friday Catch Up

20 Apr

I’m on vacation for my birthday (really: sitting around freaking out about officially being ‘mid to late twenties’ in less than 12 hours)!

Sometimes I really miss living alone. I really only did it for about 2.5 months, and despite the huge disgusting problems my tiny apartment had, it was MY tiny disgusting apartment and I didn’t have to be responsible for other people.

How was that picture taken a year ago-ish already?! I miss having a shaved head, which is unfortunate since I recently decided to grow my hair out.

ImageI’ve been keeping up with my short runs. Livefit Trainer is a different story. I got the completion email, even though I was still on week 7 (of 12). I was only doing it a few times a week, and I don’t know how to push myself, both with running and lifting. As soon as it gets hard, I pull back (uh…that’s what she said) and half-ass my way through it. So I wasn’t seeing the results I thought I should be seeing and the number on the scale kept going up and up and up and it was discouraging. So I’ve shifted my goals and will be trying out different things instead of just lifting weights and running a few miles on the weekend.

I finished the whole Hunger Games series in about two days. But! Since I’d seen the cast of the movie in photos and such, I pictured the characters as the actors. Yesterday I found out that the people I thought played Gale and Peeta actually play Peeta and Gale. I’m still dealing with my feelings about this.

I really have to get started on my “27 before 27” list now. There’s bound to be some revisions. Especially in 11 months from now when I’ve done none of the things.

I hate to even think it, but the hockey season is almost over for me. The Sharks finished their regular season strong, started post season strong, but have kiiiind of fallen apart. Tomorrow’s game decides if they are out of the race for the cup. WHAT A GREAT BIRTHDAY.

Life List is Out

28 Mar

If I create goals with no real end date, I will keep putting them off. Plus I forgot everything that was on the list. So! With a little less than a month to go until the big 2-6, I’ve created a list of 27 Things to do Before 27.

A compact(ish) number of set tasks that are challenging enough to be interesting and not crazy enough to be impossible. Some may require a little work or creativity or persistence (hello again, every failed photo a day project I ever started), but I know it’s going to give me a lot of interesting stuff to look back on.

Since I’ve taken such an extended break from running, I’m counting the miles that are already on my dailymile account from the last year. These are all things I’ve never done before, so they all still count as long as I do them before April 21, 2013.

  1. Take a photo everyday for a year
  2. Run 500 miles (133/500)
  3. Go rock climbing
  4. Run a half marathon
  5. Wear fake eyelashes
  6. Ride on the back of a motorcycle
  7. Go kayaking
  8. Stop biting my nails
  9. Get professionally fitted for a bra
  10. Drive the Jeep
  11. Makeover a piece of furniture
  12. Ride a mechanical bull
  13. No haircuts (trims and anti-mullett measures are okay)
  14. Eyebrows waxed (use the spa giftcard already!)
  15. Make pizza dough
  16. Take Lady to the snow
  17. Pierce something
  18. Drink a $100 bottle of wine
  19. Stay at the Madonna Inn
  20. Buy a new (to me) car
  21. Do 100 push ups
  22. Wear heels out
  23. 4 more tattoos (0/4)
  24. Take a pole dancing class
  25. Run a mile in 8 minutes or less
  26. See a movie alone
  27. Complete a knitting project

Okay, so technically I’ve done some of these things. I’ve pierced something before, but I wouldn’t have my lip pierced again (for a third time). I’ve also completed a knitting project, but I can’t complete the same one again, and I’d like to get back into it. I’ve worn heels out, but never with much success and I’d like to start doing it more. I’ve seen movies alone, but – again – something I should do more of instead of waiting for things I really want to see to come out on DVD just because Marshall wouldn’t go with me.

What do you want to do in the next year or so?

23 Nov

I love being a displaced orphan at the holidays. Everyone feels bad for you and wants you to come to their house and eat their food. There are no 16 hour car trips, nasty casseroles, or moms yelling at me. Last year, Marshall was still working so we couldn’t go to his family thing and we were super broke AND he broke his car and had to take mine to work so I was stranded at his place with The Dog and a package of hot dogs.

This year we are not so broke, and not doing anything holiday related. He won’t even let me buy a cheapo fake Christmas tree at Target. His car is fixed, so I think this weekend we are going to go drive it over rocks and into ditches. I don’t understand the appeal of wheeling – we went last weekend and it was okay but seems expensive and pointless.

I still want to reflect on the things I am thankful for, so here we go:

  • The family we’ve made. It’s just a boy and a girl and a dog and a cat, but it seems like so much more when we’re all in the bed fighting for covers.
  • Friends. We’re bad at keeping in touch since I’ve moved and they’ve moved and we’re all at different places in our lives now. I value the instant connection that can be made and how easy it is to fall back into it.
  • Things I take for granted. That I have a home and a job with insurance and food and clean water. Even when times are tough, we don’t fall behind on the things we need to keep these things. I think ‘Living in modern times’ kind of goes here too, with medicine and the internet and everything,
  • Marshall. In a seriously sappy way.

11 Things

11 Nov
  1. I took today as my ‘floating holiday’ at work because I thought Marshall would be laid off by now. This is his last shift, so this has become ‘have the house to myself for more than an hour for the last time until April’. He didn’t get laid off at the end of last season, so I’m going to have a live-in boyfriend I see every day and not just half the week?! I’ll be annoyed with him in 20 minutes, watch.
  2. To Do list for HTHTMFMTAHFTLTUA: Watch Game of Thrones and Doctor Who between workout times, yoga, 600 rep bodyrock thing, face mask, pumpkin pancakes (check!), sleep in (check!), clean the tub so I can take a bath, dishes (half check!).
  3. I’m all over the place in what I want to achieve, fitness wise. I want to be stronger, I want to lose weight, I want to flatten some things and tighten others, I want to be able to run longer without stopping. All at once.
  4. According to our horrible scale, I go up or down anywhere from 7 to 15 pounds A DAY. I tried to give up on weighing myself, but the scale is just there – next to the fridge actually. Which is also where we keep all the workout stuff.
  5. I’ve been having the worst luck buying the Song of Ice and Fire books used on Amazon. Always horrible shipping issues. Last time my package sat in a post office for a week, this time it appears the person printed a shipping label a week ago and hasn’t actually sent it.
  6. It’s so freaking cold in this house and the pilot light is out in the heater. I make the snugs cuddle up on me all the time. And wear Marshall’s huge warm jackets and pants around the house. And his beanies. Next will be his slippers.
  7. My phone upgrade is at the end of the month and I can finally join the cool iphone crowd. I resent my blackberry more and more everyday. #whitegirlproblems
  8. I totally missed the first 11:11 wish-making opportunity. So I’m going to think about it all day, until the second 11:11, and hope that the universe still picks up on it.
  9. I entertained the idea of running today, but it’s raining and I live on a huge hill. Nope, staying in. My legs are still revolting against me from my last three days of running…and probably the 200 squats I did Wednesday night.
  10. My fake Hello Kitty obsession has gotten out of control. I’ve managed to avoid buying all the appliances at Target, but between the debit card, the checks, the bathrobe, the socks…I’ve been thinking about getting a tattoo. Maybe after the party shark and the direwolf.
  11. This is my favorite set of pictures:
